Actinic keratoses are precancerous lesions caused by cumulative UV exposure. I recommend consistent high-level photoprotection for patients with significant sun damage or a history of actinic keratoses. Eucerin Actinic Control MD SPF100 can form part of a prevention strategy, but it does not replace regular skin examinations or treatment of suspicious lesions.

What is Eucerin Actinic Control MD SPF100 used for?
It is a medical-device sunscreen intended for the prevention of actinic keratosis and non-melanoma skin cancer, and as an adjunct to treatment of existing actinic keratoses.
What is actinic keratosis?
Actinic keratosis is a precancerous skin lesion caused by cumulative ultraviolet exposure. Some lesions may progress to squamous cell carcinoma.
Is SPF100 better than SPF50?
SPF100 provides greater UVB protection under standardised testing conditions, but neither SPF offers complete protection. Adequate application and regular reapplication remain essential.
Can Eucerin Actinic Control MD treat existing actinic keratoses?
It is used as supportive photoprotection alongside appropriate treatment. It does not replace cryotherapy, field treatments or other dermatologist-directed procedures.
Is it suitable for someone with a history of skin cancer?
It may be appropriate as part of a comprehensive sun-protection plan, particularly for people with a history of significant UV damage. Regular dermatological follow-up remains important.
Can I use it on my scalp?
Yes. It can be applied to exposed scalp areas, particularly where hair is thinning or absent.
Is it suitable for sensitive skin?
The fragrance-free formulation may be suitable for sensitive skin, although individual reactions to sunscreen ingredients remain possible.
Can it be used every day?
Yes. Daily, consistent application is particularly important for people with cumulative sun damage or actinic keratoses.
Does SPF100 mean I can remain in the sun for longer?
No. SPF100 does not provide unlimited protection. Continue to minimise prolonged sun exposure and reapply as directed.
Does this sunscreen replace regular skin checks?
No. Individuals with actinic keratoses, previous skin cancer or suspicious lesions should continue regular skin examinations and seek assessment of new or changing lesions.
