Hyperpigmentation is a description, not a diagnosis.

This is also where I would be particularly careful about over-exfoliation.

Using a glycolic cleanser, glycolic leave-on treatment, peel, retinol and another exfoliating serum simultaneously does not necessarily produce faster results.

It may simply produce an irritated skin barrier.

NeoStrata Skin Active: For Visible Signs of Skin Ageing

Skin Active is NeoStrata’s more comprehensive ageing-focused collection.

Skin Active should therefore not simply be interpreted as “the strongest NeoStrata range.”

Correct is a much smaller collection.

I would think of these as targeted additions rather than the foundation of a NeoStrata routine.

The Glycolic Microdermabrasion Polish provides more intensive resurfacing, while Lip Wrinkle Repair is designed specifically for the lip area and surrounding lines.

Can You Mix Different NeoStrata Ranges?

Yes—and in many cases I prefer this approach.

You do not necessarily need to use Clarify cleanser, Clarify treatment and Clarify moisturiser simply because you have oily skin.

For example, someone with oily skin and post-acne pigmentation may build the foundation of their routine around Clarify while incorporating a carefully selected Enlighten product.

Someone with pigmentation but easily irritated skin may benefit from a Restore cleanser and moisturiser alongside one targeted Enlighten treatment.

Similarly, someone using a Skin Active retinol may not need a strong Resurface glycolic treatment on the same evening.

Choose products according to what each step needs to accomplish—not simply according to the name of the collection.

Which NeoStrata Products Are Best for Skin of Colour?

There isn’t one NeoStrata collection specifically for skin of colour.

Instead, I pay particular attention to inflammation and irritation.

In darker skin tones, inflammation can trigger or worsen post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH). This means an overly aggressive routine intended to improve pigmentation can become counterproductive if it repeatedly irritates the skin.

For pigmentation-prone skin, I generally favour:

controlled exfoliation + targeted pigment treatment + barrier support + consistent photoprotection

rather than automatically choosing the strongest available acid.

This is one reason the distinction between Restore, Enlighten, Clarify and Resurface matters.

How Do You Build a Simple NeoStrata Routine?

A good skincare routine does not need six active ingredients.

Morning Routine

Cleanser → targeted serum if required → moisturiser → broad-spectrum sunscreen

Evening Routine

Cleanser → one primary treatment → moisturiser

Once your skin is tolerating the routine, additional products can be introduced according to a specific need.

If you are starting retinol, high-strength glycolic acid or another intensive exfoliating treatment, introduce it gradually rather than adding several new active products at the same time.

Can You Use NeoStrata Glycolic Acid and Retinol Together?

Potentially, but that does not mean everyone should apply them together.

Both retinoids and exfoliating acids can irritate the skin, particularly during the introductory period.

For many people, a more tolerable approach is to alternate nights, introduce one active before adding the other, or use a gentler supporting routine around the active treatment.
