Cyspera Sensitive Duo is a targeted pigmentation system developed for sensitive, reactive and pigmentation-prone skin. Powered by cysteamine and Isobionic-Amide (IBA), it helps improve the appearance of dark spots, uneven skin tone and persistent hyperpigmentation while prioritising skin comfort and tolerability.

The two-step routine combines Cyspera Sensitive for short-contact pigment correction with complementary skincare support to help maintain skin resilience, comfort and overall skin quality.

Cysteamine is a naturally occurring aminothiol that has been clinically studied as a topical depigmenting agent.

Rather than acting through a single pathway, cysteamine influences several processes involved in melanogenesis. Its proposed actions include inhibition of tyrosinase and peroxidase, interference with melanin synthesis intermediates and antioxidant effects.

This multi-pathway activity makes cysteamine particularly relevant for persistent pigmentation concerns such as melasma, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation and uneven skin tone.

Benefits

  • Cysteamine-based pigment correction
  • Contains Isobionic-Amide (IBA)
  • Helps reduce the appearance of dark spots
  • Helps improve uneven skin tone
  • Suitable for persistent hyperpigmentation
  • Useful for post-inflammatory pigmentation
  • Can be incorporated into melasma management
  • Specifically developed for sensitive and reactive skin
  • Short-contact treatment approach
  • Helps maintain skin comfort during pigment correction
  • Suitable for different skin tones

Cyspera Sensitive Duo is particularly useful when effective pigment correction is needed but irritation and sensitivity limit more aggressive treatments. Cysteamine has clinical evidence for hyperpigmentation, including melasma, while the short-contact approach can improve tolerability.

This is especially relevant in darker skin tones, where treatment-induced inflammation can itself worsen post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. Pigmentation disorders such as melasma are also frequently recurrent, so I would consider Cyspera part of a long-term pigment-management strategy rather than a quick fix. Consistent photoprotection remains essential for maintaining improvement.

  • Apply Cyspera ORIGINAL+ once daily to dry, unwashed skin.
  • Apply a thin, even layer over the areas of pigmentation.
  • Leave on for 5–15 minutes, depending on skin tolerance.
  • For sensitive skin, I would start at the shorter contact time and increase only as tolerated.
  • Rinse off thoroughly using a mild cleanser.
  • Pat the skin gently dry.
  • Apply a thin layer of Cyspera BOOST afterwards.
  • Cyspera BOOST can be applied once to twice daily to the face and neck.
  • Do not leave ORIGINAL+ on longer in an attempt to accelerate results; longer contact may increase irritation without necessarily improving efficacy.
  • Use a broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher every morning. For melasma or pigmentation aggravated by visible light, I would favour a tinted broad-spectrum sunscreen with iron oxides.

What is Cyspera Sensitive Duo used for?
It is a two-step pigmentation system designed to improve dark spots, uneven skin tone and unwanted pigmentation, particularly where sensitivity or delicate treatment areas are a concern.

What products are included in Cyspera Sensitive Duo?
The current South African Sensitive Duo contains Cyspera ORIGINAL+ 30ml and Cyspera BOOST 30ml. ORIGINAL+ is the rinse-off cysteamine treatment, while BOOST is the leave-on supportive cream.

Does Cyspera Sensitive Duo contain cysteamine?
Yes. Cyspera ORIGINAL+ contains Cysteamine HCl, together with Isobionic-Amide (IBA). Cyspera positions cysteamine as its principal pigment-correcting active.

What is Isobionic-Amide?
Isobionic-Amide (IBA) is Cyspera/Scientis' proprietary ingredient designed to support skin comfort and work synergistically with cysteamine. It is present in both products in the Sensitive Duo

Is it suitable for sensitive skin?
Yes. The Sensitive Duo is specifically designed for sensitive skin and delicate areas. However, cysteamine can still cause temporary stinging, redness or irritation in some users, so contact time should be adjusted according to tolerance.

Can Cyspera Sensitive Duo be used for melasma?
Cysteamine has evidence as a depigmenting treatment and may form part of a melasma treatment strategy. Because melasma is chronic and multifactorial, treatment should also include rigorous photoprotection and, where appropriate, other dermatologist-directed therapies.

Can it help post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation?
It may be useful for persistent post-inflammatory dark marks. In darker phototypes, avoiding excessive irritation is especially important because inflammation itself can worsen PIH.

Can it be used on delicate areas?
Yes. The manufacturer specifically lists lips, elbows and intimate areas among the areas for which the Sensitive Duo is designed. Use on intimate areas refers to appropriate external skin, not internal mucosal application.

Should I wash my face before applying ORIGINAL+?
No. Apply it to unwashed skin. If the skin has just been washed, I would allow it to settle and dry completely before treatment rather than applying cysteamine immediately to freshly cleansed skin.

How long should I leave Cyspera ORIGINAL+ on?
The manufacturer recommends 5–15 minutes according to tolerance. Sensitive users should generally begin at the lower end rather than starting immediately at 15 minutes.

Is Cyspera BOOST washed off?
No. BOOST is the leave-on component of the Sensitive Duo and can be applied once or twice daily.

Does BOOST contain retinol?
Yes. The current BOOST INCI contains Retinol, along with IBA, Panthenol, Squalane, Shea Butter and vitamin C derivatives. This is worth mentioning on your MD DermOutlet page because customers may otherwise assume the second product is simply a moisturiser.

Can it be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding?
I would advise against it. Cyspera's current safety guidance states that its system should not be used during pregnancy or lactation. BOOST also contains retinol.

Do I need sunscreen while using Cyspera?
Yes. The manufacturer recommends broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher every day. For melasma and pigmentation in darker phototypes, visible-light protection with an iron-oxide-containing tinted sunscreen can be particularly useful.

Is Cyspera Sensitive Duo hydroquinone-free?
Yes. The manufacturer describes the Sensitive Duo as hydroquinone-free and suitable for continued use.

Is it the same as Cyspera Intensive Duo?
No. Sensitive Duo uses ORIGINAL+ + BOOST and is positioned for sensitive skin and delicate areas. Intensive Duo uses Cyspera INTENSIVE + BOOST and is positioned as the stronger option for more persistent pigmentation.
